Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
What does “Thus minded” mean? The verse before today’s verse says, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. The verse following today’s verse states Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Pressing toward the mark is not salvation, for that is a free gift obtained by faith. It is the continual act of drawing nearer to the Lord God in Christ Jesus through purposeful life actions and religious duties. Those who draw close unto Him become of the same mind concerning the same things. Why? Because He is of one mind, by drawing close to Him that one mind permeates our minds.
Think about it like this. Picture a triangle with one of the points oriented upward. That point represents Christ. Then imagine that you are on one of the points at the bottom of the triangle and all other believers are on the opposite point. As you grow in Christ, as you “press toward the mark,” and as all others in Christ do the same, you grow closer to Christ, but also closer to one another. As all believers become more like Christ they all become more like one another. This is the same mindedness that underlies the entire teaching of the Bible, especially the New Testament.
Oneness is a priority with God. Do believers have different personalities, yes; different abilities, yes; different callings, yes; different physical characteristics, yes; but a very definite oneness of mind which is the mind of Christ. As Paul stated under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, …if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
