Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Jeremiah 13:10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
Imagination is a part of everyday life. Without an imagination it would be impossible to imagine not having an imagination. Without imagination art would cease, marriages would grow dull, design would end, books of fiction could not be written, and Bible messages would be reduced to something like textbooks wired for sound. Every person has an imagination; it is one of the gifts of a loving God.
Just as each individual has an imagination, each individual is responsible for its usage. As with any gift of God it can be used or misused. Imaginations can be holy or unholy, righteous or unrighteous, good or evil. The choice of how to use an imagination is based upon freedom, conviction, and personal discipline. Romans 12:2 instructs how: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Enjoy your imagination, for it can enhance many wonderful experiences in life. But be very careful to control it, or it will in turn begin to control you. Therein is a thought for another day. It seems the more devotions written lead to more devotions that need to be written and there are only eight days left in this year and we have not yet scratched the surface of all that should be said about Minding Your Thoughts!
The imagination can be trained, it can be washed, it can be altered, and it can be brought under the influence of God’s Holy Word.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
