Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
2 Corinthians 1:15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;
Monday is my day off. A few weeks ago on Monday I was very tired, and I decided to stay at home all day. In the morning after my personal devotion time I turned on the television and decided to watch The Price is Right. It so happened that it was “dream car” week. Each day the show was trying to give away a dream car to one of the participants.
The second price guessing game was won by a woman that was probably in her sixties. She took her place on stage and they unveiled the dream car she could win. It was a brand new midnight blue Porsche 911 sports car. All she had to do was guess the price and the car was hers. The game they played for the car was called “temptation.” They brought out four nice gifts, but not as nice as the car, and showed her the price of each gift. Out of the prices of the lesser gifts, she was to pick one number that would be in the price of the car.
They gave her the first number in the car’s price which was a 9. I can’t recall what the first gift was but the price was $2,277. She picked the 2, and the host of the show put the number 2 in the second digit for the price of the car. Then the other three prices were revealed and she guessed the numbers until the price of the car was completed. Let’s say it was $92,743, then the contestant was given a choice to make. She could take all four gifts and walk away a guaranteed winner. Or she could choose to take a chance that all the numbers she picked were correct, thereby winning the car and all the gifts. If the price of the car was incorrect she would win nothing.
After a moment or two in the valley of decision with the host encouraging her, the audience cheering her, and the car parked just a few feet from her she made her decision. She chose to take the four gifts and walk away. She said, “I promised myself if I made it on stage that I would play it safe.” She was minded to play it safe and she did. She won four nice prizes in addition to the one she won to get on stage.
Then they uncovered the price of the dream car one by one. She would have won the car. All her numbers matched the price of that Porsche, but she was minded to play it safe. She did and she won. She had no regrets for she took the sure thing. I did not watch the rest of the show to see if she was in the showcase showdown, I was too disappointed and decided to do some work in my workshop.
Make your mind up and deal with the consequences. Sometimes you will win small, sometimes you will win big, and sometimes you will lose. But at least you will learn to make your mind up and fulfill that about which you are minded.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
