A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
That which a person thinks in their mind, and what they think in their heart are not necessarily the same thing. The man spoken of in this verse has a thought in his heart, yet he communicates something else altogether with his words. By reading the verses before and after today’s verse it is easy to see that the type of person discussed in this verse is not honorable. What they think in their heart is what they are, but their words intend to cause a false comfort on the unsuspecting soul. At the last this type of person will cause mischief that will cause their victims to feel the sickness of regret in their stomach.
Camouflage is very popular now. However for time and eternity mankind has been expert at camouflaging that which their heart truly thinks. This is why it is so important for children of God to examine the deeds of a person and not only their words. Truly, actions do speak louder than words. However sometimes we are just not listening to actions, we are too infatuated with words.
It’s like a 17 ounce rib eye steak being cooked on the grill. Which is better; the sizzle, or the steak? Without fear of contradiction it is the steak. The sizzle has no taste and no nutritional value, it’s just noise. The same is true with many people, what they say is simply sizzle; it is what they think in their heart that really matters.
