Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Psalms 40:17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
This was written by a king. King David. Of all the people in the world the Lord God would certainly think upon a king; especially the king of His people, the nation of Israel. However, David did not write this from the perspective of a king. He wrote it from the perspective of being poor and needy. Perhaps this king was thinking back when he was the youngest of eight. No matter how rich a family may seem, the youngest of eight would be the one who wore the “hand me downs,” and take the last place in the pecking order; his seven brothers were probably expert at keeping the “ruddy youth” humbled.
Perhaps the Holy Spirit inspired David to write this Psalm from the standpoint of being poor and needy to encourage all who fall into that category. If you are poor and needy today remember, always remember and do not let it slip, that the Lord thinketh upon you. He has you in His mind. He has you in his thoughts. He is actively thinking about you. Notice David states that the Lord is his help and deliverer. He is yours too. Or He can be, if you let Him.
A King became a pauper to relate to all who would follow him and read his words. But remember, a king, no matter how rich he is, is nothing but poor and needy in comparison to the richness of the Lord.
Whatever your state of life is, the Lord is thinking upon you today.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
