Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Jeremiah 7:24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
Consider what the Lord says:
But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers. Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not answer thee: (Jeremiah 7:23-27)
Two things led to the sad pronouncement in today’s verse. 1 - The people walked in the counsels of an evil heart. 2 - They walked in the imagination of an evil heart. Now these were God’s people! The people upon whom God’s richest blessings and miraculous works were outpoured. Yet, they yielded more to their hearts than to God’s Word and will. Their hearts were evil. This is a tale of caution for each person. The book of Hebrews contains a clear and distinct warning. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (Hebrews 3:12). An imagination based on the thoughts of an evil heart is something to guard against at all costs.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
