Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

December 17

Proverbs 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Proverbs 6: 16–19 lists six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him. One of these things is An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations…  The importance of the state of the heart cannot be overstated. The heart greatly influences the thought process including conscious thoughts, subconscious thoughts, and the imagination.

Of course, in this context the heart is not the muscle in the body that pumps blood, but rather the inner man. In the King James Bible the word “heart” is used 765 times, “hearts” is used 111 times for a total of 876 usages of this one word. Many of these verses deal with the heart as the inner man. Think about it, if daily devotions were written on this word it would take almost two and one half years to complete. That is a lot of information; the Lord has much to say about the heart.

The heart must be guarded at all cost. Why? Proverbs 4:23 gives the answer. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.

Dr. William Howe
