Business by the Book

Proverbs 12:15  The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Our world is very complex. No one is an expert at everything. There is no way for people in business to learn, know, and keep up with everything they need. Technology is changing so fast that it is a challenge for those who make a living with it to keep up with all the technological changes. The above verse was written over two thousand years ago, and if it was wise to seek out counsel then, today it must be even more important to obtain wise counsel.

There are too many things today that simply cannot be left to chance. Business owners are faced with intricate insurance policies that must be understood if a proper decision on which policy to purchase can be made. Then they are faced with information technology decisions, which they are probably ill-equipped to handle. Then there are personnel legalities, warranty issues, and let’s not even think about the myriad of governmental regulations and tax consequences. For each of these specialties there are experts in that field, experts on insurance, IT experts, legal experts, warranty experts, regulation experts and tax experts. These experts offer sound advice and direction for the busy business executive.

Years ago I had a teacher tell the class that “Brilliance is not knowing everything; brilliance is the ability to know where to find everything that is needed to be known.”  The place to find the answers to complex issues is to consult experts in that field.

Only a fool would think that counsel is unneeded in today’s fast paced and ever changing business climate. It may cost time and money, but these are expenses well spent when they are spent on wise counsel.
