Business by the Book

Psalm 56:5  Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

Every successful person must learn how to deal with those who twist their words and devise evil against them. To deal with those who would trouble you consider four things.

One: have confidence in yourself. One of the enemy’s favorite strategies is to shake your confidence. If you begin doubting yourself, the enemy is well on the way to winning.

Two: eliminate the word “quit” from your vocabulary. Anyone can quit, and anyone can refrain from quitting. Don’t quit. Keep on working, keep on trying, keep on thinking, keep on planning, keep on doing; just keep on.

Dr. Cabel Roberts was a Sunday School Superintendent for the old First Baptist in Fort Worth while Dr. J. Frank Norris was its pastor. This church was huge with thousands attending each week. From this church a college was started that has since splintered into several Bible colleges. In the college a man named Louis Entzminger was a key faculty member; I believe he was dean of students.

Dr. Roberts once told me that if a student felt the need to withdraw from the college they had to meet with Dr. Entzminger and explain why. Upon listening, Dr. Entzminger would often quote a simple, two-word poem to the student.

Keep on, Keep on, Keep on

Keep on, Keep on, Keep on

He would quote these two words over and over, getting louder and louder, then stand up from his desk and walk out of the room, all the while quoting these two words. Many students stayed in college, he did not give them a chance to quit.

They sailed. They sailed. Then spake the mate:

“This mad sea shows its teeth tonight.

He curls his lip, he lies in wait,

With lifted teeth, as if to bite!

Brave Admiral, say but one good word:

What shall we do when hope is gone?”

The words leapt like a leaping sword:

“Sail on! sail on! sail on! and on!”

Fourth stanza from “Columbus” by Joaquin Miller.

If you quit, the enemy wins.
