Business by the Book

Isaiah 9:16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

“He’s a natural born leader.”  We’ve all known someone like this.  This is a person who always seems to rise to a leadership position.  No matter the size of the group, the nature of the group, the structure of the group, or the purpose of the group natural born leaders will rise to the place of leadership.  That is just the way it is.  But this fact does not mean that others cannot become great leaders.  They can.

The Bible is the greatest leadership training manual in the world.  In it we find many examples of both great and diabolically awful leaders.  For the next fifteen days or so we are going to focus on leaders and leadership.

As far as natural born leaders versus those who have to develop in this area consider two of the greatest baseball players ever.  Babe Ruth was a naturally gifted baseball player.  He needed little practice and exercised little, but he sure could hit a baseball.  On the other hand, Pete Rose was a baseball player that rose to the highest level of performance on the baseball field, but he had to work hard to excel at the game.  Two men vastly different, but both are arguably among the best that ever played the game at their given position. 

After all, a person doesn’t have to be born a leader to become a great leader.
