Business by the Book

Proverbs 1:4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

Beginning today these devotions will be taken from the book of Proverbs. Repetition is a key to learning and the book of Proverbs repeats the same lessons numerous times. This book is a very practical, straightforward and sensible book. It is a collection of wise teachings as collected and compiled by Solomon. He may not have written all these proverbs, but he did gather them together with the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

This entire book has the stated purpose of giving subtilty to the simple as well as giving the young knowledge and discretion. When you think of this word simple think of a simple skirt or a simple curtain, it is a sewing term meaning lack of folded pleats, darts, or lack of being gathered together and folded into a design. A simple skirt or curtain hangs straight down without the complicated hems or corrugations. The teachings of this book will give those who are simple in understanding the human condition the ability to grasp the subtleties of life. Understanding the complications of life, the complex folding over of concepts in life, the gathering together of ideas, motives, and purposes, as well as understanding human nature will aide anyone in any business.

Knowledge and discretion are in short supply today. No matter the walk of life one is currently traveling these two characteristics are needed. So, let’s enjoy this time together as we explore the concepts of Business by the Book as given to us in Proverbs.
