Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Lamentations 3:61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
The imaginations that the Israelites had against Jeremiah turned into actions. Twice in as many verses the prophet states that the Lord knows their imaginations against him. In verse 60 he states that the Lord has seen their imaginations then in the very next verse, today’s verse, he states that the Lord has heard their imaginations against him. The Lord has the ability to see and hear that which people imagine. This fact should bring no small desire to properly maintain the imagination.
In verse 64 of this same chapter Jeremiah states: Render unto them a recompence, O Lord, according to the work of their hands. The imaginations of these people became actions of their hands (as they always do). Deeds are birthed by thoughts; thoughts are the outgrowth of imagination. Many who wish to control their actions find it very difficult to do so. In fact, behavior modification is a science in and unto itself. One thing is certain though, controlling actions begins with controlling the imagination - controlling thoughts.
A sales manager once told his salespeople, “Quit trying to be a good sales person: be a good sales person.” If thoughts bring forth actions, then control the thoughts and the actions will also be controlled. It’s like this, a businessman was passing by a boy playing in a huge mud puddle. He stopped and asked the boy, “What are you trying to do?” The boy replied, “Mister, I’m not trying to do anything, I’m doing it.”
Your imagination is a gift; use it wisely, for from it come actions that sometimes are the determining factor in success or failure.
May the Lord bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
