Business by the Book

Proverbs 8:17  I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

So wisdom speaks. The entirety of Proverbs chapter 8 is devoted to wisdom. This wisdom is interpreted to be different things to different people. For the purpose of Business by the Book let’s describe wisdom as knowing what is right to do in a given circumstance. Those that love her are loved of her. Those who seek wisdom early will find her. Consider three ways to seek wisdom early.

Seek wisdom at as early an age as possible. By the way, you are now today as young as you will ever be. Seek wisdom now, today, for you will never be younger than you are right now.

Seek wisdom early in the day. Today you may face difficulties. Seek wisdom for the day as early in the day as possible. Spend a few moments thinking about the tasks planned for today, try to imagine the problems that may arise, and prepare for them. Make a decision on how to handle them. Develop a strategy to overcome them. Do not wait for problems to catch you unawares, anticipate them and consider wise actions to navigate through them.

Seek wisdom from others. Every business person should have a personal cabinet. A group of people who are wise in their own sphere of expertise that may be called upon for consultation in time of need. If a financial problem is anticipated call upon someone who is an expert in finances to give some insight on how to properly handle the potential problem.

And always seek wisdom from the Bible and through prayer.
